Petition Reaches 400K Signatures for Johnny Depp to Keep Role as Captain Jack Sparrow in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Reboot. A fan made petition is calling for 300,000+ fans to sign on stating petitioners want Johnny Depp to be rehired for his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow. The petition has currently reached over 400,000 signatures and continues to climb.
Due to recently highlighted personal issues and allegations made against the famed actor, Depp has been dumped by many major film studios, including Walt Disney Pictures who helmed the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and is looking to create a reboot series or films.
Change.org Petition organizer, Riza Siddiqui, shared, “Johnny Depp has been out recently as Captain Jack Sparrow. One of the reasons is his personal issues as well. He has been playing this role since 2003 when we first saw him arriving at the Port Royal in his boat with that epic background music playing. But can you imagine someone else portraying this instead of him? Or no Jack Sparrow at all?”
She continues, “Disney is rebooting Dead Men Tell No Tales because of its box office but don’t they know that without Johnny Depp or Jack Sparrow they will sink, they will never be able to reach that horizon they are looking for. Even if it means nothing to you but please, sign this petition for the ones who REALLY want Johnny Depp as their Captain of the Black Pearl! They have to bring him back to rule the seas again or we will never watch any Pirates of the Caribbean movie without our Captain.”

The iconic Captain Jack Sparrow is not the only role Depp has lost due to the allegations against him. Recently, Depp himself revealed that he had been asked to resign as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts film series starring Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law by Warner Bros Studio.
Depp confirmed the news via Instagram, sharing: “In light of recent events, I would like to make the following short statement. Firstly, I’de like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days. Secondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agree to that request. Finally I wish to say this. The surreal judgement of the court in the U.K. will not change my gift to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal MY resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not ne defined by this moments in time. Thank you for reading. Sincerely, Johnny Depp”

Award winning actor Johnny Depp is now facing a shocking defeat in court against UK based newspaper, The Sun. Throughout 2020, Depp has had to stand trial against the famed newspaper for allegations of spousal abuse. In U.S. based courts, these allegations were found to be mostly untrue and found mounting proof that his ex-wife Amber Heard was indeed a large source of abuse towards Depp through their toxic relationship and even faked photos and accounts of abuse to try and defame the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
The courts in London ruled in the favor of News Group Newspapers and Executive Editor Dan Wootton, stating the evidence of abuse from Depp was “substantially true” and that The Sunwas not liable for their publishings. The publishers lawyers resented 14 incidents along with various forms of evidence including text messages and photos, which the court sited in their final verdict.
The fight is not over yet, as Depp’s lawyer firm, Schillings, sharing Depp fully intends on filing an appeal on the verdict, stating, “the judgment is so flawed that it would be ridiculous for Mr Depp not to appeal this decision.”
