The Walt Disney Company recently announced that it will be laying off 28,000 cast members across the company. Many of those layoffs are coming from Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Unions representing Disneyland Cast Members are starting to get layoff notices.
Workers United Local 50 in California posted the following on Facebook this weekend:
“Layoff Update,
We have received notification from the company that layoff notices will begin going out today. As stated before the notices will be to by email to a personal email addresses and normal mail via the United States Postal Service. Effective separation date will continue to be December 31, 2020.

President
Workers United Local 50”
This same union previously announced they would be receiving notices for over 2500 Disneyland Resort Cast Members.
Cast Members who receive layoff notices will be employed through the end of the year. If they have health benefits, those will also remain intact through December 31, 2020.
We’ve been hopeful that the Disneyland Resort would be able to reopen soon, however, Governor Newsom and his administration have made that extremely difficult. The Downtown Disney District is open and Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure park will be opening soon.
