According to the Orlando Sentinel, Universal’s attendance at its open Orlando and Japan parks typically hovers around 25%.
Comcast CEO Brian Roberts acknowledges the diminished attendance as being a consequence of the global pandemic. It’s understandable with the financial ripples and health concerns. The entertainment company is doing everything it can to help make the theme parks a safe and enjoyable experience.
This information comes after Universal announced a revenue loss of 94% in the second quarter of this year due to the closures as well as their new construction project, Epic Universe, being indefinitely paused. Even though the company is trying to attract visitors, Brian Roberts stresses the need for a COVID vaccine to help the tourism industry recover.
Additionally, there’s discussion on how the pandemic slowed theme park construction for Universal.
At the right time, we can invest in theme parks — but not now. We’ve slowed down some investments in theme parks, but I hope they’ll come back and want them to come back.
– Comcast CEO Brian Roberts
Comcast paused construction on the new Orlando park, Epic Universe, amid the economic uncertainty. The company has not said when it plans to start building the park although Universal assures the plans will continue eventually.
