On Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order extending the ongoing state of emergency in Florida for another 60 days. The order was originally issued on March 9th as a response to the coronavirus. The new expiration date for the State of Emergency is now November 3rd, 2020.
This is the second time the Florida Governor has renewed it since March. According to state officials, declaring a state of emergency allows the governor to direct funds as necessary. For instance, funding for supplies, equipment, or personnel needs to help in time of a disaster or emergency. But what exactly does it mean for residents and tourism?
It allows DeSantis to issue executive orders requiring individuals, businesses, and schools to take coronavirus-related health precautions. Also, getting an extension will not change anything for the state’s tourism. If anything, it means the state will continue to direct funding and resources towards necessary pandemic-related issues.
Multiple Florida counties continue to enforce mask mandates, which requires face coverings to be worn in public. These mask requirements help in effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Likewise, the state continues to monitor the daily coronavirus case numbers. It helps to ensure the health and safety by allocating necessary resources until the pandemic is over.
