Disney’s Animal Kingdom welcomed a colorful addition to the family!
An adorable baby mandrill who was born on July 25! The infant parents are Linus and Scarlett. You might have seen them at the Kilimanjaro Safari during one of your visits.
The Animal Kingdom team is not sure if the baby is a girl or a boy yet since the mom has been keeping the infant close to her. But they are doing well and spending a lot of time bonding! We can’t wait to learn the baby’s name!
Mandrills are a vulnerable species from African rainforests along the equator, unfortunately their habitat is disappearing due to deforestation and poaching.
That’s why the animal care team works with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) on Special Survival Plans (SSPs) ensuring the responsible breeding of endangered species like the mandrill monkeys. This allows for a healthy and genetically diverse population of these animals for years to come.
You can take a look at how the baby mandrill is doing at Disney’s Animal Kingdom here:
If you would like to see more about what goes behind the scenes at the park, then don’t miss “The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” coming to Disney+ this fall!
You will get to see the daily operation of the animal care and veterinary facilities at both Animal Kingdom and The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT!
