‘Hidden Figures’ Musical Adaption “In the Works” by Disney Theatrical Productions. According to the New York Times, a musical adaption of the 2018 hit film, Hidden Figures, is in the works at Disney Theatrical Productions. The award winning film features the story of three brilliant African-American women at NASA — Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson — who serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.

The film starred Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson, Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan, and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson. Disney has been a staple on Broadway for decades now and recent announced that Frozen the Musical would not resume once Broadway reopens in 2021. Leaving a gap and open stage, it’s likely that the musical adaption of Hercules will take the open slot, but Disney Theatrical Productions (DTP) is always looking to get future productions ready to go before the theatrical run.

Though we know DTP is working on the project actively, the only known name tied to the project is film critic Elvis Mitchel, who is working as a creative consultant for the project. It is currently known when Hidden Figures will make it’s musical premiere on Broadway or if it will run in theaters prior to a Broadway debut.
