Early predictions for Disney+ 2025 subscription members have recently changed due to the soaring number of sign-ups during the lockdown. Simon Murray, a Digital TV Research analyst, has revised his forecasts due to the effects of COVID-19 stay-at-home orders and the difference is dramatic. His initial estimate of 101 million soared to 126 million in an earlier revised prediction and has now officially doubled to 202 million Disney+ subscribers.
The forecasts include subscriptions from 138 countries and also predict a steep increase in sign-ups for Netflix and Amazon. According to his analysis, streaming services will see an increase of 519 million subscribers worldwide between now and the year 2025. Potentially due to lockdown measures in several countries, 2020 alone will see an increase of 170 million.
Disney+ has already surpassed 50 million subscribers, hitting 54.4 million as of May 4th, 2020. The platform has seen the early release of several Disney movies including “Onward” and Star Wars’ “Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker.” The US launch occurred in November 2019 and has already seen this platform rise to be one of the top five streaming services worldwide.
With original hits like “The Mandalorian” and “High School Musical: The Series,” as well as classics such as “Peter Pan” and “Duck Tales,” Disney+ would likely have progressed steadily in viewership regardless of outstanding circumstances. However, with more people staying home than ever, it appears the face of television has changed and it might just look like a familiar mouse.
