New ‘Spider-Man’ Series Rumored to be “In the Works” for Disney+. Marvel Studios and Sony have been actively in the public eye after the agreement to allow Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it seems the two studios may be looking at a new agreement that will allow Spider-Man to be featured in a television series on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+.
The rumor began circulating after scooper Mikey Sutton claimed he received a phone call with the description of the series and how the studios plan to cooperate for said Spider-Man series.
“Spider-Man is coming to television. It just won’t be Peter Parker. I received a phone call earlier this evening letting me know that a Spider-Man 2099 live-action show has been discussed for Disney+.” Sutton adds, “In other words, this’ll be a Sony-Marvel Studios collaboration if it is greenlit with Kevin Feige manning the controls,” share Sutton via Facebook.
“Spider-Man 2099 is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by Peter David and Rick Leonardi in 1992 for the Marvel 2099 comic book line, and is a futuristic re-imagining of his namesake created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.” You can learn more about Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, on Marvel.com by CLICKING HERE.
Granted, this is all speculation and there has been zero confirmation from either studio regarding the rumored Spider-Man series, but it would be great to see the many different iterations of Spider-Man that are out there in the comics and learn more about them.
Currently, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are gearing up for filming of the currently untitled third Spider-Man film, with Tom Holland and Zendaya set to reprise their roles as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and MJ. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Marvel!
