New VFX Video From Lucasfilm Shares How Carrie Fisher Appears in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘. Industrial Light and Magic, a VFX studio founded by Lucasfilm, released a new video featuring the VFX effects needed to create Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
Many different moments in the film were featured including over 16,000 ships rendered to create the epic final battle between The Resistance and The First Order, the iconic puppetry of Lucasfilm with Babu Frik and Maz Katana, and how the late Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) was able to be featured in the film using prior footage from Episode 7 and 8.
During one of the scenes featuring Leia and Luke training on Endor, Fisher’s Daughter, Billie Lourd, stepped in as her body double while footage from Episode 6 was used to “de-age” the character for the short scene.
