Artists young and old, talented and challenged unite! Disney World has brought back the Animation Experience which allows guests to draw a popular Disney character. These sessions are free and lead by patient animators.
Upon entrance, you receive a pice of animator paper and a pencil. The animator reveals which character you will be drawing. Mine was Timon. Then there is a short video about the animal who inspired that character; in this case a meerkat. This was a nice educational touch for being at Animal Kingdom. The teacher works through the character drawing step-by-step encouraging all guests along the way.
When you finish up you sign your artwork just like a real artist would. This class was a lot of fun and only a little challenging. Plus you get a rubberband to take your artwork home! In the future, there will be many characters drawn in these sessions but from now until July 19 the focus will be on characters from the Lion King. You can participate multiple times during a day if you’d like since they seem to rotate characters.
All classes take place in the recently re-opened Rafiki’s Planet Watch. You can catch the train to here right next to the Kilamanjaro Safaris. This is a wonderful free activity (in the air conditioning) to add to your next trip to Animal Kingdom.
