Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom has been undergoing a major expansion since last year. Work began last Spring to expand seating options and refurbish the extremely popular eating spot. Holding the title for the largest quick service location at the Magic Kingdom, it serves guest favorites like burgers, hot dogs and fun themed desserts. Construction has been steadily moving along on the refurbishment, and we’ve got a look at the progress.
Previously, the location closed its outdoor seating area to expand the number of tables available. Work then moved inside to include a renovation of the restaurant’s star entertainer, Sonny Eclipse. The Audio-Animatronic alien was walled off for a time while Imagineers spruced up the otherworldly crooner. Currently, purple construction walls have taken over all of Bay 3 in the famous eatery. These aren’t really the type of “Instagramable” purple walls that Walt Disney World has become popular for recently, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some potential social media stars give it a try.
The location’s ordering and food pick-up areas are divided into three “bays” to help break up the large number of guests that visit daily. During this time, only Bays 1 and 2 are up and running. While all three bays usually served the same menu items, the temporary closing of Bay 3 might increase ordering and waiting times for patrons. The location does accept Disney’s Mobile Ordering through the My Disney Experience app though, so we recommend using that while construction continues.
