Hi Chip and Co Fans! Today I’m back to continue our series on the European cities that Disney Cruise Line will be exploring this summer. My previous articles brought you glimpses of destinations in Italy, France, and Spain. Today we’ll be exploring the cities of Norway, which you can visit on select cruises from Copenhagen, Denmark and Dover, England, near London.
KRISTIANSAND
Stroll along the boardwalk to the marina, which is brimming with restaurants and shops. Continue on to the colorful town center, home to Kristiansand Cathedral, a majestic Neo-Gothic structure and the 3rd-largest cathedral in Norway. The area is rich in history. Explore the Posebyen area in the northeast—the only part of town untouched by the major fire of 1892.
STAVANGER
Old-world charm and modern style blend together beautifully in the European city of Stavanger. Located at the mouth of the Gandsfjord in southwestern Norway, this town offers fun for adventure lovers and history buffs alike. For once-in-a-lifetime adventure, hike to Pulpit Rock, the famous rocky cliff with sweeping views of Scandinavia and the fjord 2,000 feet below. Or for a more relaxed day, enjoy the city scenery in Gamle Stavanger (Old Stavanger) where cobblestone streets and wooden houses preserve the city’s history.
ALESUND
Situated at the entrance of Geirangerfjord, Alesund is surrounded by majestic mountains and shimmering waterways. The town itself stretches across multiple islands, thriving as a popular fishing center and tourist destination.
For an aerial view of the city that will steal your breath away, climb Aksla mountain to the Fjellstoua Viewpoint. The trip requires scaling a flight of approximately 418 steps, but adventurers will be rewarded with incomparable photo opportunities and refreshments served at an outdoor restaurant perched at the outlook.
OSLO
There is so much joy to discover in Oslo. One of the largest capital cities in the world, this European destination covers 175 square miles. Locals are friendly and helpful, and tourists are well taken care of in all the major hotspots—from more than 50 museums to unique landmarks to charming restaurants.
Be sure to try a taste of Oslo! Traditional Norwegian cuisine includes specialties such as gravlaks (cured salmon) and lingonberries.
