Back in time to ruin all of those Magic Kingdom photos is the Disney World Crane! Unfortunately this is a necessary evil as Cinderella’s Castle needs work done every year. The crane will be assisting in castle roof repair, painting and then when that is complete the holiday lights will be put up.
Expect the World Famous Disney World Crane to be photobombing your photos for the next few months then again in January to bring all the lights back down.
You can follow the Disney World Crane on Facebook and become famous (not really) by sharing your crane photos.
If the crane likes your photo watch for a post oozing with sarcasm to appear on the page.

We’re leaving for the World in 10 days, and I was bummed that the crane was out already. Then I remembered surviving the massive, horizontal, bright yellow crane that hovered sideways over Frontierland in Disneyland for a year during that park’s Big Thunder refurb. Like a big, yellow, flying saucer Erector Set. And all I can say is I’m glad the castle crane isn’t horizontal and bright yellow.
While I know the crane is a necessary thing I wish they painted it to look like something. Not sure what… or something to camoflauge it better like sky colors. Or maybe even green so when people take pics they can cover it up easier via green screen. 🙂 but at the same time I cant wait for those holiday lights!
That’s when the lights are put up to look like icicles almost on the castle. You have probably seen in night time pictures before.
What are “holiday lights”?
Was there this weekend. Crew said they were placing new brackets for lights which will be improved for brightness this year
The crane appears EVERY bloody year around this time…its appearance is not a well kept secret. So why all the angst about a crane? What do you want? The company providing the crane to take it down before park opening and setting it back up, in the dark, after park closing, thereby forcing the workers to work in the dark on castle turrets, endangering their safety? If you want Christmas lights on the Castle, the turrets to be nice and shiny for your photos, then shut up about the crane. Reports like this just feed the “Disney is evil and ruins my precious vacation” trolls.
I hate it but I love it. Yay Christmas lights!!
