‘Universal” Wants Disney’s Top Spot

keep calm

The top suit at Comcast Corp. has said that Universal will “Compete Aggressively” with Disney World. I am sure my fellow Disney Addicts will agree that there is no competition. Disney will always be #1.

“We’re doubling down on theme parks,” Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brian Roberts told analysts during a conference in Las Vegas that was broadcast online. “We think that there is a lot of ‘there’ there in the theme-park business for many years to come and that we have a low market share — and only one way to go.”

Universal operates the third most visited theme parks in the world. However they are still no where near the leader, which is Disney Parks and Resorts.

Universal will soon have an addition to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, known as Diagon Alley, which is expected to open by the summer in Florida. They are also opening their 4th and largest on-site hotel in Orlando. It’s the 1,800-room hotel called the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. With that addition Universal will have around 4,200 hotel rooms. That is no comparison to Disney’s 26,000 rooms.

  1. Having been to Universal, it has some good attractions. But it takes more than that to make a theme park number 1. It takes the right attitude, and Universal has shown some glimpses. But it’s still a long road to make a theme park memorable. But it doesn’t hurt to keep trying…

  2. First, they gotta get me there in order to win me over 🙂 And I’ve been to both Universal Studios parks before (as well as the one in Hollywood) and even though we consider going back, once we’re on Disney World property, we decide we don’t want to leave!

  3. Your right. Disney will always #1. That is a great thing because Disney is the most happiest place on earth.
