Skol! Any Drink Around the World Showcase (DAWS) experience at Epcot isn’t complete without a trip to the Norway pavilion. Your drink choices at this location will determine your DAWS status. Watch out for the shots of aquavit (i.e. vodka) here. Those will get you chock full-o-nuts in no time flat!
Norway doesn’t have a ton of variety in terms of drinks, but those that are there will certainly pack a punch. For a beer or a shot of aquavit, check out the drink cart near the front of the pavilion. The beer served here is Carlsberg (a Danish beer) and Bud Light—neither particularly authentic. But then, do Vikings really care what kind of beer they are drinking?! If you want something to commemorate the experience, you can get beer in a souvenir mug. Other drinks at this stand include: Linie Aquavit Glacier Shots, Wine by the glass, and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages. The only snack options here are chips, which are a great accompaniment to a cold beer.
For additional beverages and a larger variety of snacks, check out Kringla Bakeri og Cafe. This little gem has some Disney food favorites like troll horns, the ever popular School Bread, and Verdens Beste (a rum cake with custard and almond meringue topping). This last delicious treat will count as double points because it contains both food and alcohol. Even if you decide not to imbibe in any alcoholic beverages in Norway, you simply must make Norway a stop on your DAWS experience for the pastries alone. In the winter time, enjoy Bailey’s and Coffee or a Viking Coffee (flavored with Kamora Coffee Liqueur and Bailey’s Irish Cream). They go perfectly with the sweet treats. In the Florida summers stick with beer or wine. If you’re looking for a more substantial meal, you can get a variety of sandwiches. The Norwegian Club with Jarlsberg cheese is a sure winner.
For a table service location, you can check out Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, but be warned, this is a character meal. This restaurant is best enjoyed by families and certainly makes for a great place to get together as a group. It features many traditional smorgasbord items like Norwegian meatballs, salmon and rice cream. The same beverages served at the drink cart and Kringla Bakeri og Cafe are served here as well. If you’re looking for a traditional DAWS experience, skip this restaurant and check out the drink cart or quick service location for your best options.
And don’t forget to have some fun in the Puffin’s Roost, the shop located in the Norway pavilion. Not only can you find bottles of aquavit to take home, but you can also score some Viking helmets that will make for a great DAWS souvenir! And don’t forget to ride Maelstrom. You’ll be a true Viking before you know it!
