‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6‘ Rumored to be “In the Works” at Disney. Ahoy, mateys! It appears there be rumblin’s of a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film being discussed at Walt Disney Studios. At least, according to one of the actors in the series, Lee Arenberg.
Lee played the comedic pirate Pintel in the franchise, and says there are “definitely talks” of a 6th film.
“They’re definitely talking about it, as far as I know,” Arenberg told Kendall Talks TV. Lee was asked about reprising his Pintel role alongside Mackenzie Crook’s “Ragetti”, Arenberg said, “I mean yeah, of course, obviously. But they’ve already done two without us [laughs]. I love it, though, I love that part. But it’s not up to me,” Arenberg added. “It’s something to talk about during a pandemic.”
Long ago, it was rumored the Pirates of the Caribbean films were meant to release 7 movies, but slowed production and lack of recurring cast members made it seem the series would end after the 5th film, Dead Men Tell No Tales. In 2018 hope was restored, only this time with a development into a Pirates of the Caribbean series without Johnny Depp as the Captain Jack Sparrow.
Originally meant to pen the script were Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, but later exited the project after Deadpool 3 was approved for release by Marvel Studios after the acquisition of Fox by Disney. Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Pirates writing alum, Ted Elliott, are poised to replace Reese and Wernick as writers for the series projected to premiere and stream exclusively on Disney+. It is currently unknown if Johnny Depp will be brought into the new project.
