A fire broke out at the Unno Boutique extended stay hotel in Kissimmee this past Friday December 23rd and left 250 people stranded for Christmas. A Kissimmee Middle school was setup as a shelter for the families till many could figure out what to do after losing most of their belongings in the blaze.
A Congressman, Darren Soto and the American Red Cross talked with Disney on Saturday morning and made arrangements for 40-60 families to stay at Walt Disney World for the holidays and they were even given theme park tickets!
“There was still a question of, ‘Were these families going to spend Christmas at Kissimmee Middle School,’ a fine institution, but not a place that I think the kids wanted to spend the holiday,” Soto said to the Orlando Sentinel.
157 people stayed at the school on Friday, and it will remain open as a shelter all week.
The cause is still under investigation; no injuries were reported.
