Top 10 Healthy Meals in Disney World

top 10 healthy meals

Are you looking forward to a trip at Disney but dreading the sight of Dole Whips and turkey legs because it’s not included in your diet? Have no fear. Many of us equate a vacation with decadent eating and indulgence. While there are unlimited options of that nature in Walt Disney World it should bring some comfort in knowing there are also many healthy options! Disney is known for accommodating its guests in any way possible and the menus are no exception. Regardless of the reason for your restrictions, there are delicious choices for you around every corner…literally. Here are my Top 10 Healthy Meals found in Disney World Resort Orlando.

1. Slow- Cooked Chicken Curry over rice

Head to Tamu Tamu found in Africa in Animal Kingdom, this quick eats stop serves up a delicious tender chicken with curry sauce over a bed of Jasmine rice. If you are in the mood for something moderately spicy (a matter of taste) and find yourself in Animal Kingdom this is a great option. If you are a “no spicy food” person, this probably isn’t the best choice for you.

2. Vegetable Pizza

Pizzafari in Animal Kingdom delivers on taste! There are times on vacation that it will be time for kids to have their veggies! What better way to get kids enticed than on a pizza? Personal sized pizzas with a side salad is nice alternative to a burger and fries, a typical kid choice.

3. Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad

If you’re in Epcot and you want to enjoy a simple, vegetarian friendly and light salad, try Sunshine Seasons! They have many options, but we have to focus on the favorites! The goat cheese and beet salad is topped with a honey sherry dressing. Is it just me or is everything better with goat cheese? Bonus to this dining experience- the decor is a really cool mix of fun and funky. It’s like modern meets the 1970s! I always look forward to seeing those season themed hot air balloons.

4. Spicy Tuna or California Roll

My confession is that I prefer non-raw sushi. I would take a California roll to a salmon roll any day. However, the place to go in the World Showcase for amazing sushi (cooked or raw) is Katsura Grill in Japan. The very quiet and ambient quick service is a great place to calm your mind from the busy day and indulge in some delicacies that won’t kill your calorie count for the day. You have only several options so you won’t be overwhelmed if you’re new to sushi, which was what scared me the most when I first tried it.

5. Fruit Smoothie

Auntie Gravity’s in Tomorrowland, Magic Kingdom. A smoothie can serve as a wonderful snack choice from your meal plan. Refreshing, filled with real fruit and keeping you hydrated, a smoothie from Auntie Gravity’s is a perfect choice for a mid-afternoon cool down. Flavors include orange, strawberry-banana and raspberry.

6. Grilled salmon with Cous Cous and Broccoli

Found at Columbia Harbor house in Liberty Square, Magic Kingdom. The best way to grab up some protein to keep yourself energized for your likely very long day is fish! Packed with nutrients and low on calories this meal is not only delicious, but you won’t leave feeling as weighed down as you would with a beef or heavy pasta selection. You don’t have to sacrifice taste for health! This meal is also quick service so you’ll be in and back out to the attractions in no time.

7. Southwest Salad

I’ve heard many mixed reviews of Pecos Bills Tall Tale Inn and Café in Frontierland, Magic Kingdom which saddens me. I will always be a fan because it reminds me of my first trip to Disney at 9 years old. I love the décor and how being inside feels like you are outside in a Mexican village during a fiesta under the stars. I also love a good tex-mex meal! The Southwest salad, however, is my favorite healthy dining choice. Mixed Greens, chicken, Monterey jack cheese, tomato, roasted corn, jalapenos, and chipotle ranch. Ask for your dressing on the side and if you don’t like spicy, hold the jalapenos!

8. Asian Salad- topped with chicken or salmon

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios the ABC Commissary has a great “Old Hollywood” eatery feel. You can dine like a producer from the golden era of film in art deco surroundings. Specializing in international flare, the commissary offers many delicious choices for salads. They are tossed to order as you look on. My favorite healthy choice for this quick service would be chicken with edamame beans. They make this salad! I’d also toss in some carrots and other assorted veggies, but edamame is a must. Packed with protein, the chicken and beans together will set you up for the energy to ride the Rockin’ Roller Coaster over and over again!

9. Vegetarian Black Bean Burger

Disney World is known for accommodating everyone in any way possible. There are many wonderful options that are not only nutritious but also vegetarian. This “burger” is served with cheese and onion straws on a bun. You can cut the calories but ordering it bun-less or even having them hold the onion straws. No matter how you have it, this burger is well worth a try! Found in Hollywood Studios at Rosie’s All-American Café you can have this delight while the rest of your party can choose a cheeseburger if they like. Everyone wins!

10. Veggie Sandwich with Soup

We can’t forget Downtown Disney!  There are tons of great food choices here but in my travels I’ve found that Earl of Sandwich is a fan favorite. Their Veggie Sandwich fits perfectly into this list of healthy eats. This is a mix of Swiss cheese, roasted zucchini, cabbage, avocado, lettuce, tomato and pesto hummus served hot. The flavors will melt together in your mouth like a symphony of flawless taste. There is also a soup choice available that will vary daily.

Menus and pricing are always subject to change, but many of these restaurants have multiple healthy choices on the menu at any given time.
