May the 4th Be With You Recap & Star Wars Weekend Tips

May the 4th Be With You

Guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 4, 2013 were treated to a sneak peek of the theme park’s annual Star Wars Weekend festivities with a Limited Time Magic event titled, “May the 4th Be with You.” Guests were given a chance to see all of their favorite characters from the Star Wars films and even take photographs with them.  The Jedi Training Academy offered a chance for adults to join their Padawans in training, and the newly reimagined Star Tours offered trips with some very special guests. The festivities ended with a Star Wars dance party hosted by DJ Lobot and a special “Symphony in the Stars” fireworks display. And of course, guests could also obtain special limited edition merchandise from the event.

Perhaps my most favorite part of the Limited Time Magic was the character interaction—from Storm Troopers patrolling, to wandering Tusken Raiders, and even Darth Vader looming through the park; it was a sight to see and created some extra magical experiences.

If this Limited Time Magic event is any indication, the upcoming Star Wars Weekends are sure to provide even more exciting experiences, meet-and-greets and limited edition merchandise. Here are a few useful tips to help make your experience in a galaxy far far away even more out-of-this-world.

  • Planning:  With so much going on at these events, it’s important to have an idea of the activities you are interested in participating in. There is so much going on during Star Wars Weekends, from meet-and-greets, autograph signings, special parades and much more that it is helpful to plan out or prioritize your must-dos.
  • Don’t try to do everything!:  At Star Wars Weekends there is so much to see or do that it is important to remember that trying to fit everything into your vacation is next to impossible. Pick the things that are most important to you and make them a priority.
  • Get there early:  As they say, “The early bird gets the worm.” Getting to Star Wars Weekend events early help ensure you get the best opportunity to attend autograph sessions, meet-and-greets, and pick up limited edition merchandise. During the Limited Time Magic event, for example, collector pins sold out within the first two hours of the park opening.
  • Make Restaurant ADRs: Nothing makes me crankier than a wookiee than not having something to eat during a busy Disney event. If you are planning on eating at a table service restaurant, make sure you have your ADRs well in advance. Hollywood Studios has several table service locations, and they are likely to be very busy during Star Wars Weekends. Quick service locations are also readily available, for those looking for more casual fare.

Overall, Star Wars Weekends are extremely fun. With unique experiences and ambiance, you and your little Padawans are sure to have a blast. My most important tip? Have fun…and may the force be with you!
