Construction Rolls Ahead at Former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser as Site Transforms into New Imagineering Hub

A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, the Halcyon was hosting lightsaber training sessions and high-stakes heists. Today, the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser site is buzzing once again, but this time with a very different kind of mission. The once-immersive hotel is now deep into its next phase of existence as Walt Disney Imagineering moves in to create a brand-new operations base right on Walt Disney World property.

Aerial legend @bioreconstruct captured sweeping new photos showing semi trucks, dumpsters, construction materials, and plenty of equipment filling the footprint once occupied by the Starcruiser’s arrival terminal and guest rooms. Those dumpsters are especially telling. Visible inside are sinks, toilets, and interior fixtures, confirming that crews are actively clearing out rooms as they prepare the space for its Imagineering makeover. It’s less “prepare to make the jump to lightspeed” and more “prepare to make the jump to office space,” but for Imagineers, that’s arguably just as thrilling.

Disney revealed earlier this year that the building would be repurposed to support some of the biggest projects happening across the resort. With Tropical Americas rising at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a Cars expansion and full Disney Villains land racing toward Magic Kingdom, and the Monsters, Inc. land reshaping Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Imagineering is busier than a droid working overtime. Bringing more of the team back on property shortens turnaround time, strengthens collaboration, and gets those blue-sky dreams built faster.

While fans still debate the closure of the ambitious two-night Starcruiser experience, one thing is clear from these photos: the site’s next chapter is already well underway, and it’s all hands on deck as Imagineering reshapes this corner of Walt Disney World into a creative launchpad for the resort’s massive transformation.
