‘Wonder Woman 1984‘ To Premiere in Theaters and on HBO Max. The COVID-19 global pandemic has wreaked havoc on the world at large, but movie theaters, both big and small, have been a spotlight of attention when it comes to affected businesses.
Many theater chains are in the beginning processes for bankruptcy and closure as months of no business and defaults on rental properties continue to rage on, but for the lucky few that have been able to reopen in recent weeks, there is still hope to see at least one more major title premiere in theaters.
Warner Bros. Pictures has announced Wonder Woman 1984 will still premiere in theaters on Christmas Day (Dec 25th) in the US, but in a surprising reveal, the studio also shared the film will premiere on HBO Max on the same day. The highly anticipated film will premiere in theaters internationally on December 16th.
Ann Sarnoff, chair and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group and representative for Warner Bros. Pictures shared, “As we navigate these unprecedented times, we’ve had to be innovative in keeping our businesses moving forward while continuing to super-serve our fans. This is an amazing film that really comes to life on the big screen and, working with our partners in the exhibition community, we will provide that option to consumers in the U.S. where theaters are open. We realize that a lot of consumers can’t go back to the movies due to the pandemic, so we also want to give them the option to see Wonder Woman 1984 via our HBO Max platform.”
WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar shared in a statement for Warner Bros., “We believe in theaters because hundreds of millions of fans around the world value going to the movies, and for as long as fans seek out the theatrical experience, we will be there to serve them with great movies in partnership with exhibitors.”
