Wizarding World of Harry Potter is Not Done Yet!
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened 10 years ago and it’s safe to say the hype is not dying down soon. The Wizarding World continues to be the most popular spots of Universal theme parks. The first one opened in Universal Orlando before the last Harry Potter film was even released. Fans came to check out Hogwarts and Hogsmeade and the cast came to open it up for the first tome.
“Now, 10 years later, “we’re not done,” says Thierry Coup, chief creative officer for Universal Creative. “You think about what has happened with Harry Potter in the past 10 years beyond our theme parks — The Cursed Child, the eight movies, Fantastic Beasts, the mobile game Wizards Unite. The Wizarding World is not resting. It keeps building.”
Diagon Alley
When the Wizarding World opened 10 years ago it was only Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure with Hogwarts. In 2014, the Orlando theme park had another major expansion and Diagon Alley was built. With Diagon Alley came the Hogwarts Express that brings guests from park to park.
Hagrid’s Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure
That’s not the only expansion Universal Orlando has had with the Wizarding World. In 2019 they created the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Coup said he always wanted to build the Forbidden Forest and the ride was created. Fans came from all over for the opening of the ride too and wait times were as long as park hours.
“That keeps fueling our creativity and our desire to do more,” he says. “When you see the guests’ reactions, it just creates so many wonderful memories for them. People are even inspired to read the books for the first time! They take their children and they discover the world of Harry Potter. That’s huge for us. This is a business of emotion, bringing fun and smiles to everyone,” Coup said in an article at People Magazine.
We hope the Wizarding World of Harry Potter continues to expand. There is so much magic within the series and so much they could do within the theme parks.
