The Marvel Cinematic Universe is home to a robust library of characters for both film and television. Instead of getting a solo film, some are getting adventures in episodes made for TV. There’s no doubt Marvel is finding success on Disney+ with each new series they add to the streaming service. We know a second season of Loki and What If… will be coming to Disney+. But what about shows such as Hawkeye?
While it’s likely we will see a continuation of each Hawkeye character’s adventures, a recent move by Marvel Studios has cast some significant doubt on the potential future of a second season.
Marvel Studios has chosen not to add Loki along with Hawkeye and Moon Knight in the Limited Series category for the upcoming Emmys. Why is this significant? It’s because Loki is guaranteed a second season, which means it fails the criteria for being a limited series. In the meantime, labeling Hawkeye and Moon Knight as limited series means these are likely not being renewed.

Limited Series
According to the Television Academy rules and regulations, the criteria to compete in limited series: “The program must tell a complete, non-recurring story, and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”
The Primetime Emmys have been actively trying to crack down on the designations of series and limited series.
However, the news only pertains to the immediate future of each Disney+ series. It doesn’t mean these characters are never coming back. They can still return in other upcoming MCU projects. For instance, Echo is getting a spin-off series of her own after the events of Hawkeye. Even without a second season, it’s likely we will see these characters again.
