Wicked Defies Gravity at 2025 Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day
Prepare for a magical spectacle! The Broadway blockbuster “Wicked” will enchant Pasadena with its own breathtaking float in the 2025 Rose Parade.

“Wicked” delves into the backstory of Oz, exploring the lives of Elphaba and Glinda before Dorothy’s arrival. The film chronicles their unexpected friendship as they navigate Shiz University and uncover the hidden truths of their world.
The float will be a botanical masterpiece featuring Golden Globe nominees Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as the iconic witches. The Emerald City, the Grimmerie, and the Yellow Brick Road will all be meticulously constructed using a stunning variety of flowers, seeds, and plants.
Celebrating the spirit of “Defying Gravity,” the float will soar high, reaching 24 feet tall and 18 feet wide, while extending 55 feet in length. This floral masterpiece will incorporate an estimated 76,748 flowers, creating a truly awe-inspiring display.
Elphaba will take flight on her broomstick, just as she does in “Defying Gravity,” wearing the witch hat and cape bestowed upon her by Glinda. Her costume will be a unique blend of black seaweed, black onion seed, and light grey lettuce seed. Meanwhile, Glinda, elegant in her pink dress and crown from the opening number, will grace the float, wand in hand. Her dress will be a breathtaking creation, entirely composed of pink carnations.
Giant tulips, a nod to the film’s iconic Munchkinland created with over 9 million real tulips, will also adorn the float. Director John M. Chu’s commitment to practical effects brought this fantastical world to life.
