Orlando’s News 6 reports that Maya Burgos, a Walt Disney World cast member, was arrested during an undercover sting operation.
Disney security noticed a high number of thefts being reported at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. Investigators determined that these thefts seemed to correlate with the rooms that Burgos serviced as a housekeeper.
Surveillance cameras were placed in a resort room that Burgos was scheduled to clean. According to the arrest warrant, investigators placed $20 on a nightstand. After she was finished cleaning the room, the camera caught Burgos pocketing the money.
Burgos is facing charges, but has now bonded out of jail.
In the tourist area of Central Florida, crime is relatively low and hotel burglaries at the Disney resorts are rare. With that said, guests should still be mindful of their surroundings and take appropriate steps to keep valuables safe.

Yeah it sounds like a tip. Really need a tip jar in each room
What a silly “sting”. From the way this article reads, one could argue that the housekeeper thought the $20 was left as a tip. I, myself, have left $20 tips on top of either the nightstand or desk area many times before.
In no way do I condone her behavior, I just think the method was pretty weak.
1 year ago to the day, my daughter and I stayed on a Disney property- The Lodge. My daughter fell asleep and left her iPad on the bed. We checked out in the morning, as we were driving home, my daughter realized her iPad was left in the bed. We called, and same situation- they checked-nothing, sent people to check-nothing. I believed it was housekeeping who DID NOT REPORT IT and just kept it. It was sentimental to my daughter because her father (who had passed away) bought it for her. So disgusted with being jerked around for 1 entire month with Disney. They sent a check like it was just an electronic. So disappointed! We have NOT returned! It was our 1st trip to Disney to celebrate my daughter’s 16th birthday…
I left some souvenirs we had purchased at WDW on top of our bed as we were leaving in a rush for the magical express. I wanted to pack them last since one was an expensive pearl necklace my husband had bought me, and I wanted them in my carry on. I contacted Disney as soon as I realized I had forgotten them and they assured me mousekeeping would have it since I had left them in such an obvious place. Mousekeeping said they did not have it, they would send people to check the room again, and eventually said I must’ve packed it and the airport security people must have taken it.
