New Magic Takes Shape as Imagineering Files Permit for Disney Animation Experience at Hollywood Studios
Big things are sketching themselves into reality at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as Walt Disney Imagineering has officially filed a permit for set installation inside the upcoming The Magic of Disney Animation.

The permit calls for Adirondack Scenic, Inc. to install set elements inside the attraction’s show building, signaling that this long-awaited reimagining is moving into a major phase of development. The space, which previously housed Star Wars Launch Bay, is being completely transformed into a fresh, animation-focused experience that celebrates Disney storytelling from sketch to screen.
While the permit doesn’t spill the pixie dust on exactly what’s being installed, we already know guests can expect several immersive elements when the attraction opens. Plans include character meet and greets, a hands-on animation experience hosted by Olaf, and even an Alice in Wonderland-inspired playground. Outside, the building is also getting a bold new look with a Sorcerer Mickey hat façade, bringing some classic animation flair back to Animation Courtyard.

Construction in the area has been steadily progressing, with walls shifting and new marquee elements taking shape. While Disney has confirmed that the nearby Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! will debut on May 26 as part of the Cool KIDS’ SUMMER offerings, an official opening date for The Magic of Disney Animation has yet to be announced.
Still, with set installation now officially underway, it feels like this reimagined experience is flipping through its final storyboards and getting closer to opening day.
