Imagineering to Add Walt Disney Figure to Magic Kingdom’s Carousel of Progress Attraction
In an exciting announcement at the Destination D23 event, Walt Disney Imagineer Chris Beatty revealed that an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney will soon be added to “Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress” at Magic Kingdom. The new figure, which will appear in a brand-new introductory scene, continues a legacy of innovation that has defined the attraction since its debut.

The Carousel of Progress was Walt Disney’s own idea from beginning to end, and it first premiered at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. It has since become the longest-running stage show in the history of American theater, finding its permanent home as a tribute to its original version at Magic Kingdom in 1975. This latest update is set to maintain the heart of the classic attraction while introducing it to a new generation of fans.
Kirsten Komoroske, Executive Director of the Walt Disney Family Museum, commented on the news. “The introduction of a new Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney in ‘Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress’ marks an exciting milestone in our shared mission to celebrate the story of the man behind the magic and inspire new generations with his innovations and vision for the future,” she said. Komoroske also expressed gratitude for the “meticulous care that Imagineering has taken to keep Walt’s legacy alive.”
The new introductory scene, featuring the legendary man who never stood in the way of progress, will precede the journey of an American family and their dog Rover as they travel through four generations of technological advancements. While more details about the updates are still to be revealed, the new figure of Walt Disney is a tribute to the creator’s enduring vision that a great big, beautiful tomorrow is just a dream away.
