Sadly the voice of Pinocchio, Richard Percy Jones, has passed away July 7th at his home in Northridge, California. He was born on Feb 25, 1927 in Snyder, Texas. He was also known as Dickie or Dick Jones.
He was found dead on Monday by his wife. She found him on the bathroom floor. She proceeded to called 911, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
He voiced the role of the lovable puppet in the classic Disney film as a child actor. This was not his only part, he did have a few others in his career:
- He performed on the songs “Give a Little Whistle,” “Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee” and “I’ve Got No Strings.”
- He also had small roles in the Our Gang movies as well as Babes in Toyland (1934), Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Knute Rockne All American (1940) and Heaven Can Wait (1943).
- He had small roles in some Westerns, in movies and TV. From 1951-53, he played Dick West/Jimmy the Kid in 78 episodes of the TV series The Range Rider.
- He made a few appearances as different characters on the 1950-54 series The Gene Autry Show and the 1954-55 series Annie Oakley. He went on to play the title character in 1955-56’s Buffalo Bill Jr. His last and final credit was the 1965 film Requiem for a Gunfighter.
He retired from acting in the 60’s and started a new career in Banking and Real Estate.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
