Disney’s popular online game site Club Penguin celebrated Earth Day the best way they know how — virtually.
From April 21-26, Club Penguin users could take part in activities that educated them about the importance of Earth Day and why it’s important to help the environment. Users could use coins that they earned to purchase special Earth Day-themed costumes for their penguin, as well as visit areas of the map that had been re-themed to appear more like the habitats of some endangered animals. There, users could learn about these animals and why they are endangered.
Disney also donated $100,000. This money will go toward projects to preserve wetlands, reduce overfishing in China, and projects to conserve and protect the snow leopard and the African painted dog.
My younger brother and I explored and played around with Club Penguin and had a great time. (I’m officially a black belt at Card Jitsu.) The Earth Day activities within the world were educational and informative, as well as engaging.I recommend that parents let their kids have some fun with Club Penguin!
