The 1928 movie poster of Mickey Mouse (above) was auctioned off to the highest bidder recently in Dallas, Texas. The pricey poster belonged to the family of a deceased collector in Northern California said Heritage Auctions, the auction house handling the estate.
The name of the winning bidder was not released but the final price was and the famous mouse poster went for $101,575…not bad for a mouse! Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney, in 1928, after he replaced Oswald the Lucky Rabbit created by Disney.
The color poster promotes the “Mickey Mouse sound cartoon,” with a headline calling the sound cartoon “A Sensation to Sound and Synchrony” and calling Mickey himself “The World’s Funniest Cartoon Character.”
Grey Smith, director of movie poster auctions at Heritage Auctions, in a statement called the poster “an important piece of pop culture treasure,” and said it was likely to be the only Mickey Mouse poster created until 1930, when Columbia Pictures started distributing Disney cartoons.
As we can all agree, Mickey Mouse has created a global merchandising franchise for himself and his “friends” and is one of the most recognizable Worldwide characters today.
