If you are anything like me, then going to the Disney Parks NEVER gets old! Seriously, I think I could go for an entire year and still be smiling (if anyone would like to fund theory testing, I am willing a ready participant). So if this is you, then you should brace yourself for this next sentence I’m about to type…
Some people get bored on their Disney parks trips.
Today I’m sharing my tips for putting some spice into your Disney trip! You know they say variety is the spice of life, so today we are talking variety, family style that is! We are focusing on creating fun for families while at the Disney Parks. My home park is Disney World, so this article will be aimed at that park, but you can change it up (where needed) for your home park.
Put a theme on it
I love theme days! As a kindergarten teacher, the possibilities for themed days are endless! From dressing up like a 100 year old on the 100th day school to dressing from head to toe in red for Red Ribbon Week, I am game! I love putting a theme on my Disney days too! For me, Disney theme days can be as broad or specific as you’d like. Here’s a theme that I came up with off the top of my head:
Theme:
- Pirate Day
In Park Ideas:
- Ride Pirates of the Caribbean 10 times in a row!
- Eat a swashbuckling good meal at Tortuga Tavern
- Sail over London in a Pirate Ship on Peter Pan’s Flight
- Since pirates love all things nautical, hit up the best of the best when it comes to water rides: Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids
- Spend time with marine friends in EPCOT’s the Seas Pavilion
- Drink me hearties yo ho! Take an adult spin on this phrase with some tasty concoctions or for the junior pirates in your life, hit up Club Cool in EPCOT and drink like a king!
- Throw in a bit of pirate speak!
- Create a treasure map out of your park map!
- Head to a Pirates League and get a makeover 😉
- Live it up in the parks like you own them! A Pirate’s life for me!!!!
The idea here is that you want something that is doable. Don’t go so overboard that you feel like you’re working to have fun. Creating a theme day isn’t about extra work, it’s just about adding a splash of magic. Theme days crafted around your child or your own interest will be a ton of fun to plan and carry out.
Honor each family member
Honor each family member by including them in the planning process! If you are making dining reservations or restaurant selections, let each family member have a turn at picking the place! This is especially good for avoiding the “what about me?????” meltdowns that many trips are prone to. Give each family member a chance for their voice to be heard by honoring them for the day! On their day, allow them to select the first ride/attraction of the day, the park to start out in, and the honor of picking where to eat! Get creative!
Make a game of it
Spontaneity is good! Make a game out of your trip by creating a random bag. Write/type the names of rides, attractions, snacks, you name it on slips of paper and stash them in a zip top bag. When you sense a dull moment (like that is possible at Disney World!!!) or when you just want to have a little fun, draw a slip out of the bag and let that be your guide! Who knows, you might get crafty and come up with an even better version of this game!
Try something new
Make it a point to try something new each time you are at Disney World! The possibilities are endless! Even if you are a Disney die hard fan like me, you’ll find there’s always something new to try! Maybe there’s a ride or show you’ve never experienced, maybe you’ll try a new restaurant or food, maybe you’ll see something new! Mark some things off your Disney bucket list! Trust me, adventure is out there!
I hope these ideas will help to spice up your next trip to Disney World! Including every member in the planning and execution of a Disney trip is a great way to avoid meltdowns and build memories!
