US lifting COVID test requirement for international travelers
The U.S. is lifting its Covid-19 testing requirement for international travelers to enter the country. The policy required travelers to test negative within a day before boarding a flight to the United States.

The CDC announced that the policy will end early Sunday, June 12. They will reassess the situation in 90 days and will reinstate the policy if needed.
“This step is possible because of the progress we’ve made in our fight against COVID-19,” said U.S. Health Secretary Xavier Becerra.
Airlines and travel groups have been pushing for the testing requirement to end. Some thought it discouraged people from traveling internationally because they could end up stuck overseas if they tested positive for Covid-19.
The CDC said, “The Covid-19 pandemic has now shifted to a new phase, due to the widespread uptake of highly effective Covid-19 vaccines, the availability of effective therapeutics, and the accrual of high rates of vaccine- and infection-induced immunity at the population level in the United States. Each of these measures has contributed to lower risk of severe disease and death across the United States.”
The testing requirement has been in place since January 2021 and is one of the last remaining government travel mandates.
