A float in the Paint the Night Parade at Disneyland caught fire last night during its first performance, causing the second show to be heavily altered.

During the first performance of Paint the Night on Wednesday evening, a fire broke out on the Little Mermaid float as it was making its way through the Hub. The float was immediately taken backstage where the fire was extinguished. At the time of the incident, no injuries were reported for performers or guests.

The second performance of the parade, originally scheduled for 10:30 p.m. PT, was delayed until 11:00 p.m. PT. Due to the incident, the Little Mermaid float was out of commission. Additionally, half of the floats and performers were cut from the show, including the Monsters, Inc. sequence and the entire finale. The Frozen float became the new show closer, though Olaf was missing from the float and the rope dancers followed behind it.
Today, Disneyland updated the description for its 70th Guided Tour, removing the specific mention of a reserved viewing area for the Paint the Night parade. The new description now simply states “Reserved viewing area for a Nighttime Spectacular.”
