Universal Files Permit for Mysterious New “Future Attraction” at Epic Universe
Universal Orlando may already be gearing up for its next big expansion at Universal Epic Universe… and the ink is barely dry on opening day plans. A newly uncovered permit hints that something entirely new is already brewing behind the scenes, and it is going by the intriguing codename “Project 680.”

The permit, filed for a backstage area at Epic Universe located at 4700 W Sand Lake Road, outlines early site work including mass grading, utility connections, and rerouting. Translation in theme park speak? The ground is being prepped for something big. While this type of work is typically the first domino to fall before vertical construction begins, what makes this filing especially interesting is that it is the first to explicitly reference a “future attraction.”
This comes hot on the heels of several other permits Universal has filed recently for additional Epic Universe projects, including a new event space and continued development within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Still, Project 680 stands apart as a completely new mystery, with no confirmed land, theme, or intellectual property attached… yet.
Universal executives have previously teased expansion plans for Epic Universe, carefully dancing around the word “expansion” like it is a restricted spell from the Ministry of Magic. But this latest permit suggests those plans may be moving from concept art to construction dirt sooner rather than later.
So what could Project 680 be? A brand-new ride system? An expansion to one of the five lands? Or something totally unexpected that flips the theme park playbook like a coaster inversion? For now, the details are locked tighter than a Gringotts vault, but one thing is clear… Epic Universe is already plotting its next chapter.
