Universal Orlando issued an update today regarding the construction of their upcoming Epic Universe theme park. The coronavirus pandemic has delayed construction work on the new theme park. Epic Universe was originally scheduled to open to the public in 2023. Now Comcast executives are saying that the project will be delayed by a year.
They are still investing in the theme park and continuing with their construction plans under a revised work schedule. Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder reassured the public in a news statement. He explained that the delay of Epic Universe boils down to timing:
“This will give us and all our contractors, vendors and creative partners flexibility to work within a changing environment. This is about timing only. Our confidence in our business, our communities and our industry is as strong as ever. We will share more specifics as we move forward.”
Hearing this news may disappoint people who were eagerly anticipating the new Universal theme park. But the circumstances that created this delay in construction are understandable. We look forward to seeing the opening of Epic Universe. We will be following up with updates on the development of this exciting Universal theme park experience as new information becomes available.
