Universal Confirms Construction in Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure

The days of the Lost Continent may truly be numbered. Universal Orlando Resort has officially confirmed that “construction activity” will soon begin in the Lost Continent area of Islands of Adventure, sparking major speculation that a brand-new land could be on the horizon.

The confirmation came after reports surfaced that Universal had filed a permit to demolish nearly five acres of the area, including long-shuttered attractions. Kristen Smith, Director of Public Relations, told the Orlando Business Journal, “In the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”

Universal stopped short of revealing exactly what those future developments will be, but fans already have their guesses.

Lost Continent has been in limbo for years. The once-expansive land was partly taken over in 2010 by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and its last attractions, The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad and Poseidon’s Fury, closed in 2018 and 2023 respectively. The Sinbad theater still sits abandoned with stage sets in place, while the ruins of Poseidon’s Fury remain untouched. With the new permit filed, it looks like both areas could finally be cleared for something new.

Speculation is running wild. Many fans are pointing to the long-rumored Legend of Zelda expansion for Super Nintendo World, which could bring Hyrule to life at Islands of Adventure. Others believe Wicked could get its own magical land, especially after Universal Destinations & Experiences CEO Mark Woodbury recently addressed the possibility himself.

Whatever the plans may be, this construction confirmation marks the clearest sign yet that the Lost Continent is ready for its next chapter. And with Universal pouring resources into Epic Universe and beyond, it seems like Islands of Adventure is about to level up once again.
