Universal Orlando Resort Announces Closures Ahead of Hurricane Milton’s Landfall

Universal Orlando Resort is taking precautionary measures as Hurricane Milton, a powerful Category 5 storm, bears down on Florida. The resort has announced closures and operational changes in anticipation of the hurricane’s impact, which is expected to bring hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall to central Florida.

Closures and Operational Changes

  • Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and CityWalk: These areas will close at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9th, and remain closed until Friday, October 11th.
  • Volcano Bay: This water park will be closed all day on Wednesday, October 9th, and Thursday, October 10th.
  • Halloween Horror Nights: This popular nighttime event is canceled for Wednesday, October 9th, and Thursday, October 10th.

Hurricane Milton’s Threat


Hurricane Milton underwent rapid intensification earlier this week, strengthening from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in a matter of days. The National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Warning for Orange County, where Universal Orlando Resort is located, as well as surrounding areas. This warning indicates that hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or higher) are expected within the warning area.

  • October 5th: A State of Emergency was declared for Orange County.
  • October 6th: Milton was classified as a hurricane.
  • October 7th: Milton intensified into a Category 4 hurricane and then further strengthened into a Category 5 storm.
  • October 8th: Universal Orlando announces closures and operational changes.
