Flying Dragons Are Coming to How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk at Universal’s Epic Universe!
It’s official—dragons will soar above the Isle of Berk when Universal’s Epic Universe opens its gates on May 22, 2025! After months of speculation fueled by leaked footage of what appeared to be flying dragons in testing, Universal has confirmed that this jaw-dropping feature is a reality.
Universal confirmed that dragons will be taking flight within Isle of Berk via a Discover Universal post, which noted:
“The dragons that rule the skies are a sight to behold as well, and you can watch in awe as they soar above while you make your way around the theme park to each of the thrilling attractions in Isle of Berk.”

The land’s official webpage even teases the magical moment, describing how Vikings in the village and dragons in the sky will bring Berk to life, with catching ‘ a glimpse of dragons flying high above the village’ while they explore the land. Guests can meet Hiccup and Toothless, stroll through the village, and—if they’re lucky—catch a glimpse of dragons flying overhead!
An Unforgettable Adventure in the World of Dragons
Isle of Berk is set between the second and third How to Train Your Dragon films, offering guests a fully immersive experience where Vikings and dragons live in harmony. The land will be packed with thrilling rides, live entertainment, and interactive experiences, making it one of the most exciting themed areas in Epic Universe!
Here’s what’s waiting for future dragon riders:
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders – Soar over Berk on Hiccup’s latest flying contraption, a coaster that sends guests swooping and soaring above the land.
The Untrainable Dragon – This live show brings Hiccup, Gobber, and Astrid together as they try to handle the arrival of a new dragon in Berk.
Dragon Racer’s Rally – Feel the rush of dragon racing as you practice aerobatic maneuvers on a Viking-made dragon-riding trainer.
Fyre Drill – Get ready for a water battle at sea, where teams of Vikings compete to out-soak each other in Ruffnut and Tuffnut’s wild boat challenge.
Viking Training Camp – A sprawling play area where young Vikings can climb, slide, and explore while learning about different types of dragons.
A Viking Feast Fit for a Dragon Rider
Exploring Berk works up an appetite, and Universal is bringing a dragon-sized dining experience to the land:
Mead Hall – A hearty Viking feast featuring meats, fish, and a variety of meads, ciders, and ales.
Spit Fyre Grill – Quick-serve flame-seared meals (courtesy of a helpful, unseen dragon fry cook).
Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel – A racing-themed food stand offering snacks and drinks to keep dragon riders fueled for adventure.
