They shared the news on Twitter this morning:
The Media Regulatory Office announced that the animated film Lightyear, which is scheduled for release on 16th June, is not licensed for public screening in all movie theaters in the UAE, due to its violation of the country’s media content standards.
The office confirms that all films screened in cinemas across the country are subject to follow-up and evaluation before the date of screening to the public, to ensure the safety of the circulated content according to the appropriate age classification.
Pixar’s Lightyear stars Chris Evans voicing the inspiration for the Buzz Lightyear action figure from Pixar’s “Toy Story” films, reportedly including a character voiced by actress Uzo Aduba kissing another woman with whom she’s in a relationship.
Tickets are On Sale Now for Pixar’s Lightyear which is coming to theaters on June 17th here in the US and will include the same-sex kiss. The kiss was reportedly removed from the film, despite the relationship status remaining a part of the story. In response to the joint statement, Disney-Pixar has reinstated the scene in question.
