TRON Lightcycle / Run Switches to ‘TRON: Ares’ Overlay
Magic Kingdom has been taken over by the Grid in a whole new way. TRON Lightcycle / Run, the park’s high-speed roller coaster, has received a temporary ‘TRON: Ares’ overlay, transforming the attraction’s vibrant blue hues into the fiery reds and oranges of the upcoming film.

The limited-time change was announced at last month’s Destination D23 event to coincide with the release of the new movie, TRON: Ares, which hits theaters on October 10. The overlay is also in effect at the attraction’s counterpart, TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland, which began its transformation on September 16.

Upon approaching the attraction, guests will notice the dramatic shift. The Lightcycles themselves now feature bold red vehicle lights, and the iconic outdoor canopy glows with an intense red light, signaling a new kind of game. Inside the queue and loading area, the lights continue the red-and-orange theme, creating an immersive experience that mirrors the aesthetic of the new film.

The changes are more than just cosmetic. A new Master Control narration has been added to the ride. As guests race through the twisting tunnels of light, they hear the Master Control Program declare, “Detecting malicious code. No concern. I am master control and have taken over. Your new directive: spread my code throughout the grid. Do so or be de-rezzed.” The race continues with the program announcing gates captured before the program is neutralized by “Team Blue.”
In addition to the new dialogue, the ride’s soundtrack has been updated with music from Nine Inch Nails, who composed the score for TRON: Ares. The band released the film’s first single, “As Alive As You Need Me to Be,” on music streaming services earlier this summer. The full soundtrack album is set to be released on September 19.

This ‘TRON: Ares’ overlay is a must-do for fans of the franchise and provides a fresh and exhilarating experience for first-time riders. While Disney has not announced an official end date for the overlay, it is expected to be a short-term offering in celebration of the film’s release.
