Tron Construction Continues to Progress

Construction continues to progress in Magic Kingdom at the site of the newest indoor roller coaster, TRON.  TRON Lightcycle Power Run will be in Tomorrowland between the Tomorrowland Speedway and Space Mountain in a completely new area.  As long as construction stays on track, Tron will open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.

Currently, TRON, located at Disneyland in Shanghai (which opened in 2016) is one of the most thrilling and popular attractions at any of the Disney parks. TRON is a coaster style attraction where riders board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles.  Once onboard guests will race through the digital frontier. It’s believed that the Walt Disney World version will be the same as Shanghai.

To make room for TRON, a couple of classic attractions needed to close temporarily. The Walt Disney World Railroad closed in December 2018. The train is currently parked at the Main Street Station, allowing guests an up-close look at the train. There is no word from Disney yet as to when the train will begin running the Grand Circle Tours. For now, take advantage of the train and some great photo opportunities.

The Tomorrowland Speedway recently closed as well.  Adjustments are being made to the tracks to make room for TRON construction. It will reopen as the same attraction in the summer of 2019. We will continue to update the progress on TRON and other attractions under construction as well. I have a feeling TRON will be just as popular in Walt Disney World as it is in Shanghai. Disney certainly has a lot of updates and plans in the works to be completed in time for the 50th anniversary! It’s a year you won’t want to miss!
