What I consider one of the most underrated animated Disney films of all time is finally coming to blu-ray on July 3. ‘Treasure Planet’ is a futuristic steam punk version of the Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Treasure Island’, which follows the adventure of Jim Hawkins who sets out on adventure across the universe as he sets out to find the fabled Treasure Planet. It’s a fun, and sadly overlooked, film from Disney’s nineties filmography, which is directed by Ron Clements and John Musket, who also did ‘The Great Mouse Detective’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Hercules’, and most recently, ‘The Princess and the Frog’. The film also features an excellent voice cast that includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Roscoe Lee Browne, Emma Thompson, Martin Short, and David Hyde Pierce. I’m hoping this blu-ray release will give people who have never seen the movie before the chance to discover it for the first time, because this is one of Disney’s best animated films. It’s just so much fun and features some truly breathtaking animation. I can’t wait to add this to my collection. How about you? Are you a fan of ‘Treasure Planet’, or will you be discovering it for the first time thanks to this new Disney blu-ray release? Let me know in the comments below!
