Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival kicks off today! This 90-day festival will be blossoming through May 29 featuring amazing topiaries, delectable treats and awesome entertainment. With the full slate of offerings, lower crowds and springtime temperatures it easy to recommend this festival as a must-do. Here’s what you need to know:
The Sights
This year’s festival will feature nearly 100 world-renowned Disney-themed topiaries that are truly spectacular. Among the additions to this year’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival is a brand-new Belle topiary with sculpted facial features that can be found in the France Pavilion. Belle joins a new generation of princess topiaries including Snow White, Anna and Elsa who were introduced at last year’s festival. Speaking of Anna and Elsa, here’s a little hint for viewing these topiaries, be sure to stop by after sunset and see Elsa’s snowy garden sparkle in the night (how does Disney work that magic?). Other additions to this year’s creative lineup include everyone’s favorite imaginary dragon, Figment, as well as a tribute to the National Parks Service centennial featuring Ranger Mickey Mouse. Each year one of the highlights is the new topiary garden at the entrance to World Showcase, and this year we’ll be greeted by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy, and Pluto in “Welcome Spring Fun, Food and Flowers,” a garden inspired by a vintage Walt Disney short film.
The Food
Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival highlights amazing gardens and topiaries, but tasty food and drink are a big part of the fun. Two new Outdoor Kitchens, Northern Bloom and The Berry Basket, join 13 returning Outdoor Kitchens in providing delectable eats all around World Showcase Promenade. You will need more than one day to try all these tasty treats! Some of the mouthwatering choices include Macaron Chocolate Framboise from Fleur De Lys, Home-Made Falafel from Taste of Marrakesh, and Seared Scallops from Northern Bloom. Yum! Check out the full list of eats here.
The Sounds
Garden Rocks, the festival’s weekend concert series, returns this year with the addition of Mondays. Every Friday through Monday will feature a line-up of 1960s, ‘70s, ’80s, and ‘90s bands. Debuting at this year’s Garden Rocks Concert Series are Exposé (“Point of No Return”), and Berlin featuring Terri Nunn (“Take My Breath Away”). Check out the full line-up here. (P.S. You can reserve seating and dining for select weekends during the festival––see available dates here).
The Memories
Festival fans will have a variety of souvenirs options at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. New merchandise will include apparel, headware (the Mouse ear headband is fun!), and home décor. Fashionistas will be excited to hear about the release of five Dooney & Bourke handbags. Disney pin collectors be sure to look for a limited release logo pin along with several limited edition pins. The four-pin, limited edition pin set features Disney characters such as Orange Bird or Judy Hopps from Disney’s “Zootopia.”
