Top 5 Reasons to Visit Kona Cafe

Among Disney regulars, the Polynesian’s Kona Cafe is a hidden gem of the Disney dining world; and after I tried this small, table service restaurant for myself to confirm the hype, I can now say that I agree!

Kona Cafe is located on the second floor of the Polynesian Resort and offers table service dining with an Asian/Polynesian flare; and while it may lack a strong theme or atmosphere, there are other reasons why you should definitely check it out during your trip!

5. You May Not Need Reservations-Many WDW guests tend to overlook Kona Cafe. So if you are looking for a place to eat, and don’t want to plan ahead and be constrained with reservations, you can usually rely upon Kona Cafe for an open table! Dining and flexibility rarely can be used in the same sentence, so this restaurant is typically an exception.

Chip’s Tips – Keep in mind during Peak Season you will still want to make an ADR as it will get busy. While you are in the parks try calling Disney Dining and see if you can make a same day reservation, that way you will not have to wait so long to be seated.

4. Dessert Menu – So anyone that knows me knows that I like to eat, especially when it’s a dessert; and Kona Cafe is known for its variety of yummy desserts! Yay!  Before I was seated, my server took me past a display of these sweet treats which include White Chocolate Cheesecake, Kilauea Torte (chocolate goodness), the No-Sugar Apple Stacker, Banana-Chocolate Creme Brulee, Chocolate Fondue, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, and the famous Kona Cone! The last being something you just have to see for yourself, and I’m sure kids will enjoy it! But being the pineapple fan that I am, especially when it comes to Dole Whip Floats, I ordered the pineapple upside down cake and found it to be excellent and a great ending to my meal. I would definitely order it again.

3. Breakfast Menu – Many of the restaurants at WDW serve breakfast; and while the food is yummy, it’s not very original and is pretty much the same everywhere. This is not the case at Kona Cafe! Here you can have a hearty breakfast with a polynesian flare, such as pancakes topped with pineapple sauce and macadamia nut butter? Or steak and eggs? Or some famous Kona Coffee maybe?

2. Tonga Toast – Also served at breakfast is the Kona Cafe’s most famous dish: Tonga Toast! This is banana stuffed sourdough covered with cinnamon sugar and served with strawberry compote! Disney guests rave about this breakfast item and it calls Kona Cafe home.

1. Quality – It seems that this restaurant tries to excel  in every area and all throughout the day, offering popular menus and dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as great extras such as their bread with macadamia nut butter and the famous Kona Coffee! The service we have experienced was high quality as well. It’s a great find for anyone who is looking for something delicious and different without the hassle.

So what do you think? Have you ever visited the Polynesian’s Kona Cafe? Would you in the future? Let us know!
