Top 5 Disney Cruise Quandary's

If you have yet to wet your feet in the uncharted waters of cruising, you are missing out. I’m sorry, there’s no easy way to break it to you, so I’m just telling you the truth up front…you are missing out!

Disney Cruise Line is like paradise on water….imagine you’re the belle of the ball and everyone on board is there to serve you and cater to your every whim. That is Disney Cruise Line.

Now that I’ve broken the news to you about what you’re missing you are all going to rush to book your Disney Cruise. here are a few things you should know.

There is nothing to be afraid of-The most common things people are afraid of that prevent them from cruising Disney has already thought about. They’ve done the pre-worry worrying, so you have nothing to worry about. Here are the top 5 concerns for worry warts and the reasons you don’t need to worry about them.

1. “What about seasickness?” Complimentary “SeaCalm” tablets are available at guest services, Dramamine (multiple formulas) and sea bands are available in the gift shop. Ginger ale, saltine crackers and green apples are also on hand to settle any leftover queasy stomachs.

2. “What if I become ill?”-There are medical facilities aboard each Disney ship. The facilities are well equipped with cardiac life support machines, ventilators and a x-ray machine. There are two doctors and three registered nurses on staff. The fees (which I hear are reasonable) are billed to your stateroom account and you will bill your insurance company separately. It is no secret that illness on a cruise ship could spread like wildfire in no time. Even germ-a-phobes like myself find comfort in the cast member who forces you to wipe your hands with an antibacterial wipe before entering the dining rooms, no excuses, no exceptions. There is also a cast member in the restrooms during the busy evening times “passing out paper towel” (a.k.a. guarding the exit to the door to make sure everyone washes their hands!). There are signs in each stateroom listing symptoms of illness that should be reported to the medical staff immediately and the ship is constantly being cleaned.

~Side-note~During my last cruise, the Cruise Director announced that the Captain had turned the ship around to transport a guest who was in need of medical assistance beyond what the ship could offer. The itinerary was re-routed and cast members took care of all the arrangements for shore excursions and other events people had planned. The moral of the story is…even at sea…you aren’t trapped…the mouse will make sure you are taken care of!

3. “What about international travel? Are the ports safe?”-In spring of 2011 the Mexican Riviera itinerary underwent a change and re-routed the ship to avoid the stop at Mazatlan; which was experiencing political unrest. Cruisers received a letter in their staterooms informing everyone of the change and the reason for it. Mazatlan has still not returned to the itinerary and an additional day at Cabo San Lucas continues to be the replacement for the old itinerary. Have no fear, if your destination isn’t safe…Disney won’t dock there!

4. “What about the weather?”-No one can guarantee what the weather will be like on your cruise…you can plot and plan all you want but if it’s going to rain, then it’s going to rain. The good news is, unlike at the parks…you can still have fun without having to don a plastic poncho and splash through the puddles. There is PLENTY to do aboard the ships, every day, all day long. Movie theaters, Broadway caliber shows, shopping, family activities, kid activities, adult only activities…your personal navigator is full to the brim everyday, so there is no shortage of things to do indoors and out.

5. “What do I need to know?”-People ask this all the time, the fear of the unknown is a very scary thing, even for frequent park go-ers. You may be able to don a poncho before the first drop of rain falls from the sky, or time your transportation to the minute for your ADR’s, and make use of every single extra magical hour…but when it comes to a cruise you don’t know where to start or what to do. First time cruisers have endless questions. If you don’t want to sit on hold with Disney Cruise Line every single time you have a question, then use a Disney Authorized Travel Planner like me! I always tell people I have no limit to how many questions they can ask and there is never a stupid question. If it’s important to you, then it’s important to me and I will tell you whatever you need to know. I understand it’s a big thing to board that cruise ship for the first time, and I also understand how fabulous it is and don’t want you to miss out!

These are just the top 5 things I hear from wanna-be cruisers, if your issues weren’t addressed here don’t panic, let me make it Pixie Perfect!
