If you enjoy traveling, the best way to get your fix – other than globetrotting around the world yourself – is to live vicariously through the cornucopia of travel shows on cable t.v. While you’ll find plenty of them in your TV guide, not all travel shows are created equal. Here are the three that stand out above the rest:
House Hunters International
House Hunters International follows homebuyers around the world as they look for their perfect abode. Each episode features three homes, and the potential buyer(s) must weigh the pros and cons of each before ultimately making a decision. In addition to showcasing some of the globe’s most unique architectural styles, House Hunters International also gives you a good look at the various lifestyles in different countries around the world.
Amazing Race
CBS’ wildly popular reality show Amazing Race follows 11 teams of two people competing in a 25-day race around the world. The first team to reach the “pit stops” at the end of each leg of the race is awarded prizes. The losers face potential elimination. The final leg of the race is run by the last three teams, and the first to make it to the final destination wins the grand prize of $1 million. While the main focus of Amazing Race is centered on the competition and the various obstacles faced by each team, the show also takes the viewer to some of the most interesting places in the world, which really adds to its appeal.
An Idiot Abroad
The documentary series An Idiot Abroad chronicles the travels of Karl Pilkington, an unwilling adventurer who is forced to see the world by the British comedic duo of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Pilkington, equipped with an ambitious bucket list, travels around the globe while Gervais and Merchant, stationed in London, often assign him bizarre tasks despite promising comfortable travel accommodations. While Pilkington’s hysterical reactions to his various travel experiences are enough to carry the show, travel-minded viewers will not be disappointed, either. From the Great Pyramids in Egypt to Machu Picchu in Peru, An Idiot Abroad also provides a unique look at some of the most intriguing places on the planet.

I really like The Amazing Race but An Idiot Abroad sounds hysterical with a unique perspective on travel.
