Tomorrowland Kugel Fountain in Magic Kingdom

Tomorrowland Kugel Fountain returns to operation in Magic Kingdom. Things are returning to normal, with more interactive things reopening at Magic Kingdom. Recently, we told you about the Hunny Wall and also the queue for Winnie-the-Pooh ride. Unquestionably, one of the weirder least understood playful fountains has reopened. The Kugel Ball. Rather redundant for the name, Kugel means Ball or Sphere in German. So… ball ball?

Let us do some research together and learn more about this odd water feature. I truly learned something new doing the research on the Kugel ball. Importantly, the Kugel ball itself is a 13277 pound perfect sphere made of granite. The ball sits on a base that has been hollowed out. It is supported by a thin layer of water. Furthermore, when it is working the thin layer of water makes it aquaplane. Making it really easy for anyone to move the ball. Little children can touch it and watch it start rotating.

The Kugel Ball

“New Tomorrowland [which opened at the Magic Kingdom in 1994] was conceived as the meeting place of the universe,” stated Imagineer Alex Wright. “It is an interplanetary hub chosen to serve as the headquarters of the League of Planets. Everything in this land relates to excitement and optimism about the future. Every detail relates to this theme.

With so many interstellar travelers passing through this area, some are bound to need directions. So a map of the universe was installed near the Merchant of Venus merchandise shop. Hence the Kugel Ball. It is actually a Map of the Universe. Complete with “You are Here” Gold Star. Importantly, as everyone should know, don’t leave home without your towel when traveling the Universe.

All you really need to know for the moment is that the universe is a lot more complicated than you might think, even if you start from a position of thinking it’s pretty damn complicated in the first place. Hopefully though, we demystified the movements of the Tomorrowland Kugel Fountain, that weighs more than most Elephants, and a child could move easily. I truly enjoyed learning about the ball Ball, even more so passing along the info to you.
