Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a rustic, beautiful resort in the Magic Kingdom area of Walt Disney World Resort. It is themed as a lodge set in Yellowstone National Park. It is easy to see why this resort quickly becomes a favorite for everyone!
This resort has everything going for it including location. It is located on Bay Lake which means a quick boat ride to the Magic Kingdom Park, possibility of viewing the Electric Water Pageant and movies on the beach. The atmosphere automatically whisks you away with the unique lodge, stunning fireplace, Disney themed totem pole and a gorgeous lobby.
Wilderness Lodge is a Deluxe Resort though it tends to be lesser expensive compared to other Deluxe Resorts. In addition it is the home to the Wilderness Lodge Villas for the Disney Vacation Club. The rooms can accommodate up to five guests when one is in a crib. A perk of this resort is that they offer some rooms with a queen bed and bunk beds. For larger families the Deluxe Club Level Suites can accommodate up to six guest with two queen beds and a queen sleeper sofa.
Aside from being one of the best themed resorts, Wilderness Lodge also is home to numerous popular Disney dining locations. They offer quick-service, table service and signature dining options.
- Roaring Fork is the quick-service option at Wilderness Lodge offering both snacks and quick-service meals. Guests can also fill up their Rapid Refill Mugs here!
- Whispering Canyon Cafe is the place to go for a table service option. If you are on the Disney Dining Plan this is a 1-Credit table service. The atmosphere at this place is nothing but fun, games and great food! If you want to experience some real fun with your server come in a Universal Studios shirt or order soda at breakfast. This dining option serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- For Signature Dining check-out Artist Pointe. The food is wonderful including items such as salmon, bison, halibut, as well as chicken. This is a 2-Credit dining option when dining on a Disney Dining Plan. Reservations are a must!
Because this resort wants you to feel the woodsy atmosphere it is surrounded by gorgeous, tall trees so viewing Wishes is hard to do. On the flip side the ambiance of this resort and the trails around it are like no other.
Wilderness Lodge also offers two pools to its guests. The Silver Creek Springs Pool has a 67 foot water slide, a relaxing hot tub and a great view of the replica of Old Faithful – complete with eruption! You can also explore by renting a bike, taking a walk on the trails, watching movies on the beach or by taking a specialty cruise.
Transportation to and from Wilderness Lodge is via boat or bus. If you are traveling to Magic Kingdom you will travel by boat. You can also take a boat over to monorail at Magic Kingdom to make your way to Epcot. All other locations are serviced by Disney’s bus transportation.

Hi Paul! This is without a doubt my favorite resort as well! We love all times of the year but Christmas holidays is absolutely stunning! I am so glad you have had the privilege of experiencing the magic of this resort! We always look forward to returning!
Kari, this is easily my favorite resort at WDW. I was lucky enough to spend my Christmas holiday at Wilderness Lodge during its very first holiday season. I will NEVER forget driving up in the sedan that I rented and seeing the entry arch, followed by slowly driving up to the resort. I was simply amazed, but even moreso when I walked in and saw the beautiful and massive Christmas Tree. I was there for 10 days, until the day after Christmas. It was one of the most cherished trips I have and LOVE remembering it.
