More details are beginning to emerge about the upcoming Harry Potter expansion at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, and the new lands could include plenty of interactive magic built directly into the scenery. According to reporting from Forbes, concept designer Kat Chang, who worked on the project through Thinkwell, said her role included designing attractions, retail, and dining environments for the Harry Potter expansion while also providing concept design for “interactive experiences” throughout the different environments.

While plans can change during development, the report suggests interactivity has been part of the design process for the project. Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is expected to add areas inspired by Hogwarts Castle, Diagon Alley, and the Forbidden Forest, creating the first Harry Potter lands inside a Warner Bros.-branded theme park.
Forbes has also reported that a major attraction could center around the flying Ford Anglia, giving the Abu Dhabi expansion a ride concept not currently found in Universal’s Wizarding World lands. Exactly how the interactive elements will work remains unknown. Universal’s interactive wand system is proprietary, so Warner Bros.
World would likely need to create its own approach rather than duplicate what guests currently experience in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan, and Beijing. That would not be entirely new territory for operator Miral, which has incorporated interactive games and scavenger-hunt-style experiences into other Yas Island attractions. Warner Bros.

World is also completely indoors, which could give designers additional freedom to hide technology, lighting, effects, and detailed scenery throughout the new Harry Potter environments without having to contend with the outdoor elements. An opening date has not yet been announced, and the project is still believed to be several years away, but the latest reporting paints a picture of an expansion designed to offer more than impressive sets and attractions.
