Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” takes us on the quest of a lifetime! The film follows the journey of two teenage elf brothers as they seek out magic in a newly modern world. The making of this feature is based on the inspiring story of one of the creators of the film. This is a quest you definitely want to be a part of.
Onward is an original story that is heartfelt in nature and hits close to home for director, Dan Scanlon. The story of Onward was inspired by Scanlon‘s relationship with his own brother. The brothers had lost their father at a young age. “He’s always been a mystery to us,” says Scanlon. Thanks to a family member, the brothers received a recording of their father saying ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’. This recording meant everything to them. Out of the mystery of his father, the story of Onward was born.
Dan Scanlon decided he needed to partner with producer, Kori Rae, to bring this concept to fruition. The pair had worked together on other projects like Monsters University. The filmmakers realized they wanted the feature to feel familiar but with magical elements. Unlike the Monster world, they wanted a modern feel in a suburban environment that had lost touch with magic and fantasy. Bridging the two worlds together would be a challenge, but judging by the look of the film already, they’ve been more than successful!
Disney and Pixar’s Onward opens in U.S. theaters on March 6, 2020.
